Flash messages

What are flash messages? #

Flash messages are an excellent way to enhance product pages and communicate more effectively with customers.

They can create urgency around a product, highlight a USP or special feature, or display additional information and special messages in an eye-catching format. Used effectively, they can help to increase customer confidence, drive sales or increase conversion rates.

Note

The text within the flash message is written by the merchant. For example, if a particular product has been selling well, text to that affect can be added by the merchant. The theme is unable to determine sales trends and automatically show an appropriate message.

How to set up flash messages #

Steps

  1. Open the Theme editor and navigate to a product page
  2. Select the Product section in the TEMPLATE group on the left.
  3. Click Add block and select Flash message.

Positioning #

There are many uses for flash messages, and they can appear either over the main product image (as pictured above), or within the product content on the right hand side, for example the ‘Coming soon’ message below:

Appearance #

Under Icon select from a range of SVG graphics to visually enhance the Flash message.

Use the Message input field to add the main text content you wish to display in the Flash message.

Tip

By inserting a dynamic source (metafields) for the Message, each product can have unique messaging assigned to it.

Under STYLE the Background and Text color of the Flash message can also be customized.

Behavior #

Depending on the implementation of the Flash message, different configurations may be appropriate.

The Close button behavior can be customized, e.g. you may want to hide it altogether for displaying important product messages, or you may want to enable it and allow the message to be closed forever by the customer.

Adjusting the Seconds to show message (only when the message shows over media) will alter how long the message displays for before fading out. Choose a longer time to show messages when messages are lengthy.
